Grabber returns home on January 16th as “Black phone 2» becomes available for streaming on Peacock.
Blumhouse's sequel to the 2021 horror film directed by Scott Derrickson hit theaters last October. It featured Derrickson's return to the director's chair, as well as Ethan Hawke's takedown of the villainous Grabber, who pursues protagonists Finny and Gwen Blake (Mason Thames and Madeleine McGraw) from the grave.
The sequel also brought back Miguel Mora and Jeremy Davies from the cast of the first film and introduced Arianna Rivas, Demiana Bichir, Maev Beaty, Graham Abbey and Anna Lore as original characters. Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill wrote the script, which follows Finny and Gwen as they deal with their trauma four years after the events of the first film while trying to unravel the mystery of their telekinetic powers. Meanwhile, Grabber seeks revenge for the fate he suffered at their hands at the end of the first film, returning as a deadly and menacing ghost.
Telephone Black 2 premiered at Fantastic Fest in September and took in over $125 million at the worldwide box office, a success for an otherwise slow October. However, the sequel still grossed less than the first Black Phone, which earned $161 million in 2021.
“Black phonewas adapted from the story of the same name by Joe Hill, published in his 2005 anthology Ghosts of the 20th Century. Hill also contributed to the story of Black Phone 2.
Jason Blum produced both films along with Derrickson and Cargill. Both were released by Universal Pictures.
