Black Myth Wukong gets an update that’s so big on PS5, you might need to delete the game and redownload it

Today, October 13th, Black Myth Wukong will receive an update for all platforms. This is a relatively small update that fixes bugs and introduces some performance optimizations, but it takes up so much space on the PlayStation 5 that some players may find it difficult to install.

To upgrade on PS5, you'll need approximately 93.5GB of free space. How Black Myth X account explains: “Due to differences in file storage methods, the patch on PS5 will require a relatively large amount of space (approximately 93.5 GB).”

Considering the original game already takes up ~130GB of memory, adding another ~90GB gives a total of 210GB, which is a significant portion of the PS5's standard 825GB drive (especially when you consider that there's about 667GB of working memory left after installing system files). If you're having trouble finding the location, it may be easier to delete the entire game and download it again.

“If the update cannot be completed due to insufficient memory or other reasons, you can continue playing the current version or try deleting the game and downloading it again,” the Black Myth X account says.

Why will this work? Since you're not getting 90GB of new content, you're likely re-downloading the game's modified file structure – essentially re-downloading the game. It's better to do it in one 93.5GB chunk than double it, if that makes sense.

By the way, PC players, pay attention to your mods – this patch may cause some compatibility issues with them. If yes, remove the mods and wait for their separate update.

Black Myth Wukong was a huge success for producer Game Science when it launched last year, selling over 10 million copies despite lukewarm reviews. Moreover, it was a success for Chinese-made games. It seems to them that it is what The Witcher was to Polish games: a leader, a trendsetter, an attention grabber, as Ed found out when he researched the rise in popularity of blockbuster games made in China recently.

Naturally, the success of the game also contributed to the development of more Black Myth games at Game Science, although we won't be getting a direct sequel, but a thematic sequel based on another mythical Chinese character, Zhong Kue.. It doesn't have a release date yet.
