If you've been in the market for a new vacuum cleaner or handheld vacuum, you've probably seen this best-selling product deliver the results you recommend—and for good reason. Also known as the “green carpet cleaner,” this cleaner is designed to tackle even the toughest stains, and it has nearly 62,000 five-star reviews on Amazon alone and remains a top seller. Buyers love this little green machine for its practical and compact design, price and serious cleaning power.

What I love about Bissell Little Green Carpet Cleaner
As someone who lives in a small apartment and has to clean it once (if not multiple times) a week, I appreciate the portability and ease of use of this cleaner. The product is easy to assemble as it basically comes pre-assembled and you just need to attach attachments like the flexible hose storage bracket to the vacuum cleaner itself. In a few minutes you are ready to start working.
How to use Bissell Little Green Carpet Cleaner
According to the manufacturer's directions, before using the cleaner, it is recommended that you start by vacuuming the carpet, rug or other surface – this will remove any loose dirt in the area. After I finished vacuuming my space, I filled the product's clean water reservoir with Bissell Stain and Stain Pre-Treat Formula (which is included) up to the “formula” line on the reservoir, and then filled the rest with warm tap water. From there, I inserted the water tank back into the machine and selected my preferred cleaning tool. Each Bissell cleaner comes with different sized tools for different types of cleaning. For example, there is a powerful tool for removing pet stains, while three-inch and four-inch tools are better for everyday carry.
Personally, I have gotten the most benefit from the three and four inch tools. They were easy to attach – I simply released the flexible hose, plugged the product cord into the outlet, snapped the tool onto the end of the hose, and then switched the power button to the “on” position. I placed the tool about one inch above the stain or spot I wanted to remove and then pulled the trigger on the cleaner spray. After this, the cleaner worked its magic and I gently scrubbed the stain with the spray bottle, moving it back and forth until the entire surface was well covered.
Did Bissell Little Green Carpet Cleaner help?
I saw results within minutes and noticed that my upholstery was noticeably brighter and fresher—especially my vintage rugs and bath mats, which tend to look heavily discolored and worn. Aftercare was also incredibly easy – I simply unplugged the vacuum, emptied and rinsed the water tank, and let it air dry. The purifier is small enough to fit in my bathroom linen closet, so it's easy to stash away when I'm not using it and easy to transport when I'm ready to use it again.
Points to note
I have not yet used the Bissell portable vacuum cleaner, so it is difficult to assess how the model will behave after several months of use. However, I looked at reviews from other customers who have had the vacuum longer, and while there are relatively few complaints about this model, some have expressed disappointment with its durability and design. One customer wrote that the scrubber wears out over time, saying, “The bristles on the included attachment are already worn out and the area where the hose is supposed to connect to the water/solution container is very fragile.” Another reviewer noted that while they “love this deep cleanser,” they find the Bissell difficult to clean, writing, “In my opinion, it has a major design flaw in that the tool's cap doesn't come off, so you can't adequately or completely clean it.”
However, most reviews are overwhelmingly positive and my experience can speak to that. However, as with most things, it is important to do your research before purchasing this cleaning product to ensure it is the best choice for you and your family.
