After huge success Amazon TV show FalloutSome are wondering if The Elder Scrolls, Bethesda's fantasy video game franchise, could be next in line for an adaptation. But what does Bethesda boss Todd Howard think?
In an interview with eurogamer Ahead of the launch of Fallout's second season, Howard refused to rule out the possibility of an Elder Scrolls TV show, but suggested that the post-apocalyptic sci-fi Fallout franchise would be better suited for adaptation.
“I will say this: the Fallout journey was like 10 years,” Howard responded to the proposal for an Elder Scrolls adaptation. “After Fallout 3, people were asking for a Fallout movie or show, and we really took our time.”
Howard “can't rule out or rule out an Elder Scrolls in the future,” Eurogamer told Eurogamer, but he also believes the Fallout franchise is “more uniquely suited” and “has more to say in its genre.”
Howard continued, “But who knows. I think the show's impact on Fallout as a franchise has been greater than I expected, so it makes me wonder, “Hey, is there a path?” But today nothing… [and] I'm ready to say no within a decade.”
The Fallout series is varied in tone and content. Really, Season 2 star Macaulay Culkin addressed the topic in a recent interview with IGN.explaining why he's so passionate about Fallout lore.
“There could be zombies, deathclaws, monsters, things like that,” he said. “I mean, damn, you have aliens. Whatever you call it, you can throw them at a wall. Even Fallout 76, I mean, Mothman is fair game now. It's that kind of thing. There's no shape to it. You can put any shape in that hole.”
And either way, when it comes to the series, there's no sign of Fallout slowing down. Season 3 has already been confirmedand its stars said they are willing to continue playing their characters in many more series after this. In May, Aaron Moten, who plays Brother of Steel hopeful Maximus, said that the “end point” for the Fallout series would last until Season 5 or 6..
“When I signed on to be on the show, we had a starting point, and they gave me an ending point,” Moten said. “And that ending point hasn't changed. But that's the type of ending point of Season 5 and 6.”
“We always knew we would spend time developing the characters.”
Perhaps when the dust is all set and dusted, Bethesda will turn its attention to an Elder Scrolls adaptation. Will Elder Scrolls 6 will you be out by then? One can only hope.
