‘Best player’ in NFL? Bijan Robinson makes his case on ‘MNF’

Sesame Robinson is the best player in football.

Here's what the Atlanta Falcons coach says. Raheem Morris talked about his stellar run Monday night after a 24-14 win over reigning MVP Josh Allen and Buffalo Bills.

While Morris may be somewhat biased toward his player, national television viewers may have a hard time arguing with him after witnessing Robinson's accomplishment on “Monday Night Football” this week.

The third-year player set a career high with 170 yards (the most for a Falcons player during a primetime televised game) on 19 carries. That included an impressive 81-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, which was the longest run of his career and also the longest in the NFL this season. It is also the second-longest rushing touchdown in Falcons history.

Robinson now has three plays of 50 yards or more this season after only having one play of 30 yards or more last year.

“It’s just part of my game that I want to get better at and continue to get better every single day,” Robinson said after the game. “And you know, if I can get better and go over the long runs, that can only help the team.”

Robinson also caught six passes from quarterback Michael Penix Jr. for 68 yards for a total of 238 yards from scrimmage, the most for a Falcons running back.

“There are people who are just born to be certain athletes,” Falcons wide receiver Drake London said after the game. “For example, there are people who are born to be basketball players, e.g. Lebron [James]. There are people who are born to be footballers, as if they have the ideal body shape for it. Now, [Robinson] goes out there and it's like art. It's amazing to see.”

Speaking of James, the Lakers superstar also took note of Robinson's performance.

“BISO is so cold!!!!!!!!!” James posted on X during the game.

A first-round draft pick in 2023 and a Pro Bowl selection last year, Robinson leads the league with 822 yards from scrimmage this season (484 rushing and 338 receiving), and it's not even close.

The Falcons are one of six teams that have already had bye weeks, meaning Robinson collected his total in five games. The next 11 players on the list are starting with San Francisco 49ers running back. Christian McCaffrey No. 2 with 780 yards — all played in six games.

If he keeps up this pace, Robinson will finish the season with 2,797 yards from scrimmage, breaking the current record of 2,509 yards held by a Tennessee Titans running back. Chris Johnson in 2009. Johnson's record was set in a 16-game season; Robinson could have 2,630 yards in his 16th game of the 17-game season.

So maybe Morris wasn't so biased in his postgame comments about Robinson.

“He's the best player in football,” Morris told reporters. “I've said it a few times, I can't say it enough. You always have a choice, you can always go and find out who you want to vote for, but in my opinion he is the best player in football.”
