Best NFL Week 13 picks and predictions: Why we’re backing these five underdogs

There's nothing quite like the combination of Thanksgiving and the NFL. Honestly, this is one of my favorite holidays for the simple reason that all we have to do is sit back, watch football and stuff our faces with turkey, gravy and all the trimmings. Add a little gambling to all this and we've got ourselves a nice little holiday.

And that brings us to what we are grateful for this time of year. Personally, I'm grateful that my curls have started to take shape over the week as we head into stretching. Since Week 9, I've gone 13-7 ATS with five blocks for the week, including a 3-2 record last week. I'll try to keep this positive streak going as we prepare for a football marathon that will feature the NFL four times over a five-day period.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones!

I think this is an opportunity for the Texans to hit the panic button around the Colts. Houston's defense is playing as well as any unit in the NFL right now. They rank first in the NFL in total yards allowed per game (264.3) and passer rating allowed (72.2), and are second in points allowed per game (16.5). Meanwhile, Daniel Jones I wasn’t as weaned as I was at the beginning of the season. Over his last three starts, Jones has an 83.0 passer rating with five total touchdowns and seven turnovers, compared to a 109.5 passer rating, 17 total touchdowns and three turnovers in eight games prior. This is the type of defense that could highlight the recent lull from Jones. While I think Indy can find a way to get it done at home, it will be within the norm and we'll be asking a lot of questions about this team's ceiling after the contest.

Projected check: Colts 24, Texans 20
choose: Texans +4.5

The Raiders are in bad shape, falling to 2-9 on the season last week after a loss to the Raiders. Brownswhich led to the firing of offensive coordinator Chip Kelly. It's possible that this move will provide a short-term boost to the squad in this divisional matchup, but this choice has more to do with Chargers-related issues than anything else. Let's not forget that this team came out of a rare tie, losing to a team 35-6. Jaguars until the 12th week, bye. Although they will be well rested before this game, this does not necessarily mean that Justin Herbert will be better protected. They still haven't started left tackle. Joe Alt this year, and Herbert's numbers have dropped in his absence. Without Alt, Herbert is averaging 6.4 yards per attempt and has eight touchdowns with six interceptions, compared to an average of 8.3 yards per attempt, 11 touchdowns and three interceptions with him. Las Vegas has a pass rusher led by Max Crosby who can continue to give Herbert tantrums so it stays within a double-digit game.

Projected check: Chargers 23, Raiders 17
choose: Raiders +9.5

Something is wrong with the Baltimore Ravens. Yes, they've won five straight after starting the season 1-5 and are currently atop the AFC North standings, but they've seemed a little disjointed in recent weeks. Specifically, Lamar Jackson hasn't been as prolific as we're used to, with zero touchdowns and two giveaways recorded in the last two weeks. Although Cincinnati's defense is one of the worst in the NFL this season, they have played the best. Patriots last week, giving a glimmer of hope that they might become something close to workable down the road. If they show some resistance, it will help. Joe Burrow immensely as he returns to action for the first time since his toe injury. WITH Ja'Marr Chase Once again, the Bengals have an offense that can keep this one in the division. Burrow is 17-3 ATS in his career and is a three-point underdog.

Projected check: Ravens 27, Bengals 21
choose: Bengals +7

If it was before Brock PurdyThe 49ers would lose in Week 12. The 49ers quarterback threw three interceptions in the first half against the team. Panthers on Monday night, but was bailed out by a defense that held the turnovers to just three points en route to the win. And Purdy's struggles extend beyond just this game: Overall, he has thrown seven interceptions in four starts this season. Now he's being asked to shake it off against a Browns defense that has dominated this season and is coming off a 10-sack performance in Week 12 against the Raiders. This year, the unit ranks top three in the league in yards allowed per game (273.0), passing yards allowed per game (170.7), sacks (42) and is third in efficiency (34.5% opponent conversion rate). If Cleveland continues to play at this level, Purdy's problems could continue and the Browns will remain within striking distance.

Projected check: 49ers 23, Browns 20
choose: Browns +6

The Patriots enter Week 13 atop the AFC, ranked first in the conference and the first team to reach 10 wins on the year. While they were able to pick up their ninth straight win over the Bengals last week, it came at a price. The entire left side of their offensive line is out due to injury, and both left tackles Will Campbell and left back Jared Wilson They are expected to miss time, including Monday's competition. One of New York's strengths this season is its front, which is led by… Brian Burns (13 bags). With reserves set for man Drake Maye's blindly, Burns has an opportunity, Abdul Carterand others to start the game and throw the Patriots offense off track. If they can do this, it will help the one who is at the center for them (Jameis Winston or Jackson Dart) stay within the spread.
