Have you ever noticed that even when independent (read: socialist) Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders smiles, it's really weird? It's like he's embarrassed, or at least uncomfortable, when he lets his usual grumpy guard down for a bit.
Either way, Bernie barely smiled during CNN on Wednesday night.
Sanders was asked a question—one he probably wasn't expecting—about what he thought about “Sumer ShutdownAn even better (or worse, from Bernie's perspective) question came from a conservative college student.
Student Rohan Naval opened the celebration with these words:
Do you think this will affect [Senate Minority Leader] Chuck Schumer's leadership?
The ever-stern senator first tried to flip the Navy's script:
Well I think it reflects more [House Speaker Mike Johnson's] President Trump's leadership and leadership.
As Sanders responded, Nawal could be seen smiling and shaking his head.
Sanders continued, fumbling over his words before switching gears and asking Naval:
How do you feel, tell me, do you think it's a good idea to give trillions of dollars in tax breaks to the richest people in the country and dramatically cut health care costs for working class people?
Translation: I'm going to spout the same old tired lies about 'tax cuts for the rich' and then try to scare the bedesus of low-informed Democratic voters again.”
Rohan Naval, student of Australia and @taxreformer intern: “How do you think this shutdown will affect Chuck Schumer’s leadership?”

It's incredible, but not incredible, that after President Trump and the No-Vote Republicans crushed the Democrats in the 2024 elections, here is Bernie (and the rest of the Democrats) pushing Obama-era nonsense about “tax cuts for the rich” and “fair share” that anyone who knows anything about the breakdown of the percentage of federal taxes paid by income group, this is complete nonsense.
And I'm not going to waste time here debunking rumors of “massive cuts to working-class health care”—yet again.
In any case, young Mr. Rohan Naval was more than willing to respond to Sanders:
I think Chuck Schumer has voted to continue resolutions 30 times in the last four years, and he has the opportunity to vote for one resolution. 1760637068 – but he refuses to come to the table.
Wow, well played.

The confrontation occurred during a CNN event co-hosted by Sanders and the Alexandria representative. Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and focused primarily on the budget impasse and health care policy.
Both lawmakers criticized the Trump administration's approach to the negotiations, with Sanders suggesting that President Trump was not negotiating in “good faith” and Ocasio-Cortez blathering on about Democrats not accepting temporary promises for subsidies under the Affordable Care Act.
In other words, the same thing as the double hood ornaments of the embattled Democratic Party.
Editor's note: Schumer's completion is here. Instead of putting the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the Radical Democrats pushed for a government shutdown of health care to illegals. They own it.
