BBC cuts ties with Walliams following Telegraph investigation

The BBC has cut ties with David Walliams following a Telegraph investigation into his alleged inappropriate behavior towards young women.

The broadcaster confirmed Friday night that it has “no future projects directly related” to the disgraced comedian and author.

However, a BBC spokesman said it would not change its festive schedule, which includes two television adaptations of Walliams' books and a group show appearance on Boxing Day.

It is also understood that adaptations of Walliams' books and other content associated with him will not be removed from BBC iPlayer.

A Telegraph investigation sparked an investigation on Friday afternoon. Walliams' publisher will drop it.

Walliams, 54, one of the country's best-selling children's authors, faces allegations that he “harassed” junior female staff at Harper Collins.

One woman who raised concerns received a five-figure payout from the publisher and left the business.

Often releasing two novels a year, Walliams became extremely valuable to its publisher. It accounted for 44 percent of Harper Collins' UK children's sales in 2018, according to trade magazines.

This Sunday, CBBC will televise film adaptations of two of Walliams' children's books.

“Mr. Stink,” adapted from a book written in 2009, will air this Sunday at 9am.

Later that day, Boy in a dresswhich tells the story of a boy who begins to wear women's clothing and was also adapted into a Royal Shakespeare Company musical in 2019, will air at 5:55 p.m.

The comedian will also appear as a guest on the panel show Would I Lie to You? on Boxing Day.

Other Walliams adaptations currently available on iPlayer include Gangsta Granny, The Midnight Gang, Billionaire Boy and Grandpa's Great Escape.

In 2017, the comedian was awarded the 2017 Order of the British Empire for services to charity and the arts.

However, he has faced controversy before, including being criticized after making two Nazi salutes while recording the song “Will I Lie To You?” earlier this year.

In 2022, he apologized and admitted making “disrespectful comments” about two Britain's Got Talent contestants during a break in filming.

That same year, he left the program and sued the production company over leaked comments, reaching a settlement with them in 2023.

A spokesman for Harper Collins told The Telegraph: “After careful consideration and under the guidance of the new CEO, Harper Collins UK has decided not to publish new works by David Walliams. The author is aware of this decision.

“Harper Collins takes the well-being of its employees extremely seriously and has put in place procedures for reporting and investigating concerns. To respect people's privacy, we do not comment on internal matters.”

Walliams' agent said: 'David was never informed of any allegations made against him by Harper Collins.

“He was not involved in any investigation and was not in a position to answer questions. David categorically denies that he acted inappropriately and is seeking legal advice.”
