Battlefield’s battle royale mode is a free-to-play experience called REDSEC

Battlefield 6The battle royale mode has a name, and it's not as terrible as I expected, and nowhere near the awe-inspiring cringe of “Battlefortnite.” REDSEC battlefield, that's what they call it. This nickname is “Tom Clanselled”, “Limp Bizkit-ass”. What does REDSEC, EA mean? Uncontrollable boredom detected, send emergency cookies? Or is it a game about hunting down communist office assistants? You see, this is why I get paid big bananas here at Rock Paper Shitpun Dot Com.

The bigger news is that REDSEC will be free. This means it will exist as a standalone game, like Call Of Duty: Warzone – an endlessly shrinking and expanding brawler that runs alongside numbered sequels. This won't be just an update for Battlefield 6, which explains why it's not in the latest version. Season 1 DLC plans. Still, I'm getting ahead of myself.

I don't have much else to share at this point other than pointing you to EA's placeholder for tomorrow's full gameplay trailer. It appears that the publishers' hands were forced rumors this weekend – the people who introduced it as REDSEC also claim that it will launch on October 28th.

Last week, data miners also discovered a mysterious piece of future content called “Granite” in the EA app, which is rumored to be a new Battlefield battle royale feature. I defiantly cling to the hope that this is a literal addition to the game's building materials that will completely ruin the lives of tankers.

This all comes as EA makes changes to Battlefield 6's progression system, controls, and arsenal – recent moves include stop attempts farm bots in custom modes and get easy experience. In hindsight, I wonder how much of this tweaking was done to set the stage for REDSEC – even if the latter is playable on its own, there's sure to be a lot of crossover with Battlefield 6's multiplayer component. I also wouldn't be surprised if the game was inspired by a Respawn title. Apex LegendsEA's flagship battle royale game. The current head of Battlefield Studios is Vince Zampella, co-founder of Respawn.

Again, I'm guessing. And why should I guess when some of you lurking bastards played REDSEC in playtests? I know because you keep showing up in the comments of articles about Battlefield 6 to wiggle your eyebrows and hum innocently. Go ahead, break your non-disclosure agreement. I won't tell anyone. No one from EA reads this site anyway. There's a good banana there for you if you spill the beans.
