Battlefield 6’s battle royale mode REDSEC is out now and surprise surprise, there’s a new Gauntlet mode attached

Battlefield 6REDSEC's battle royale mode is now available, a “free-to-play, genre-bending game” that includes both the promised Fortnite functionality and a new squad-based competitive mode. Mitten – no, not that Gauntlet, automatic keyword linking, stop it, you're making me look like a fool, ugh, I don't have time to argue with you, please just go away – along with additional gubbins for the Battlefield portal editor. You can find it either through the Battlefield 6 installation or as a separate release on Steam.

REDSEC's battle royale map is Fort Lyndon, pictured below, set in the backyards and beaches of California, and is apparently the series' largest map ever. The setup is familiar: 100 players, divided into squads, are thrown into the world and must search for items, shoot and punch in a shrinking (and partially destructible) game space.

As for the Gauntlet mode, it's a tournament where eight teams of four compete in round-based missions, with each round giving you five minutes to complete the task. Each round, map and mission has different variables.

What, you think this all sounds crazy? Then welcome to the Battlefield Portal Editor, where you can skin REDSEC and play around with various options. The developers give the example of limiting everything to sledgehammers or using scripting tools to create more customized chains of events and goals.

REDSEC – or Redsec as it will be called from now on because I'm tired of yelling at you through my keyboard – launches alongside the first season of Battlefield 6 interactive services that you can read here. I am not much of a royal warrior, and certainly not nearly as royal as Aphid Leggings enthusiastic James, but I'll try to get the game running later and let you know how I get on.
