Battlefield 6 players suspect AI cosmetics have been snuck into the game, despite EA saying that wouldn’t happen

Battlefield 6 Fans are starting to suspect that Generative AI cosmetics have been added to Battlefield 6, despite previous statements from senior EA employees that this won't happen.

The controversy stems from a sticker on a player card included in the Battlefield 6 Windchill Bundle, a set of cosmetics being offered to players of the military first-person shooter this holiday season. One of the stickers, called “Winter Warning,” features an assault rifle with a snowflake background. This assault rifle does appear to be a very futuristic weapon as it has two barrels attached to it. Double the rate of fire, right?

This was noticed by user Willcario on Reddit.who titled their post “Get this AI crap out of the store,” writing: “Of course, two barrels on the M4A1. I would literally rather not have a sticker than some low quality AI generated garbage. You can watch BO7 and see how many AI-generated favors are won with them.”

This led to a bit of celebratory sleuthing from Battlefield 6 players, who once again scoured the library of similar cosmetics to try and find more examples of the AI being used. There is no clear answer here, but some have pointed to a different sticker. image of a bear with ten claws as possible mischievous technological tomfoolery. The bear has four claws on one paw and five on the other. A little perspective magic at work or Sam Altman's shadow casting an evil spell on EA? Who can say.

What's interesting is that previous statements from senior EA staff have completely ruled out the possibility of AI generative resources coming to Battlefield 6. In an interview with BBC News NightEA DICE CEO Rebecca Cutaz said that while generative AI is “very tempting” to use, it will only be used in proprietary stages of game development to “free up more time and space for creativity.” Larian's CEO had a similar sentiment earlier this month.which also received a ton of backlash.

So this is a case where temporary AI assets slipped through, have there been changes in AI strategy in the months since EA went privatized?or is it a simple mistake by the artist. Sometimes I still write in Americanized spelling, so maybe an artist could put two barrels on a gun on autopilot? We don't know.

At the time of writing, neither EA nor any of Battlefield Studios have responded to these allegations.
