Basketball roundup: Bonham beats Lady Lions; Cumby tourney to start on Thursday

Bonham jumped out to a 13-0 lead and never looked back during the girls' 43-19 non-district win over the Greenville Lady Lions.

Boham led 18-3 after one quarter, 27-8 at halftime and 36-12 after three quarters.

Jenna Lindsay scored 16 points and Gray Lancaster had 11 to lead Bonham, which is now 8-5 on the season.

Aziriyah Jackson led the Lady Lions with 10 points as they fell to 2-10 on the season.

The Lady Lions have one more non-district game remaining on Friday in Sanger before they begin District 9-5A play at home on Tuesday against Melissa.

Cambi tournament

starts on Thursday

CUMBIE — The Cambie boys basketball tournament gets underway Thursday.

10 teams will take part in it. Group A includes Cumbie, Wolfe City, Paris Chisum Junior University, Bonham Junior University and Unity Academy.

Group B includes Celeste, Commerce JV, Yantis, Community JV and Winnsboro.

Yantis beat Cambie 62-59 in overtime to win last year's tournament. C.J. Madison led the winners with 27 points, including all seven of the Owls' points in overtime.

Chett Vaughn led Cumbie and all scorers in that game with 30 points.

The tournament continues through Saturday, with the championship game scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

SIMMS — James Bowie topped Cumbie 84-58 in boys basketball out-of-district on Tuesday.

Cumbie, who will compete in the tournament this week, scored 26 points from Chayton Vaughan, 15 from Jace Evans and 12 from Montgomery Benton.

Vaughan, who was 4-of-11 from 3-point range, also had four rebounds, a steal and two blocked shots.

Evans also had six rebounds and an assist.

ROYSE CITY — The Royse City Lady Bulldogs prepared to open District 10-6A play with a 34-26 non-district win over Sherman.

Royce City, now 13-3 on the season, opens district play at home Friday against Rockwall.

Royce City ran up the score against Sherman as Jaya Rector led the way with eight points, Chloe Bradley scored seven points and Gabby Thompson and Gracie Ellington each added six points.

Brinley Brown and Marisa Kehrer each scored five points to lead Sherman, which fell to 6-10 on the season.
