Speaking of critical listening, the XC1 works with Sony's LDAC Bluetooth codec, with high-definition support if you have a compatible Android phone (sorry, iPhone users). Using LDAC may reveal more detail, especially when listening to a lossless audio source, but I don't think the juice is worth the squeeze for these headphones. Using LDAC disables EQ and Bluetooth Multipoint settings, and the XC1 struggles to maintain a stable Bluetooth connection when LDAC is set to maximum quality.
Baseus also includes two Dolby Audio modes (Music and Movie), which are designed to create a more immersive spatial experience. For me it's the opposite. I find they wash out the sound and Cinema is downright muddy. At 60 percent volume there was more than enough power for engaging indoor listening. On the outside I needed a little more curb appeal.

Calling on the Inspire XC1 is good. Whether you're indoors or outdoors, your conversation partners will be able to easily understand you and almost all background sounds will be hidden. However, as with most clip-on open-ear headphones, your voice won't be crystal clear—some distortion can still creep in, especially outdoors.
Baseus rates the XC1's battery life at eight hours per charge, with a total usage time of 40 hours if you include the case's battery, numbers that are only eclipsed by the 10/40 OpenDots One combo. Baseus assumes 50 percent volume and does not assume Dolby Audio or LDAC. LDAC can be very power hungry, often reducing battery life by up to 30 percent, which is another reason to avoid it.
Open-ear over-ear headphones aren't for everyone, but with excellent sound quality, a comfortable clip-on design, and easy-to-use controls, the Baseus Inspire XC1 is a great choice. They check a lot of boxes at a price that's significantly lower than their closest competitors, including strong water and dust resistance, optional LDAC mode, and Bluetooth multipoint. The only thing missing is Auracast support. Unfortunately, this feature is not yet widely available. If you want a pair of affordable open buds that can compete with the best, this is one of the best we've tried.
