Of course, every actor in Baldur's Gate 3 is magnetic – there must be a reason you might romance so many of them – but Karlach actress Samantha Bear tells GamesRadar+ that video game developers are still often underappreciated. It's disappointing because fans think differently.
“There’s a weird blackout going on,” Bear muses during Golden Joystick 2025 Award“Perhaps between the developers' perception of where we fit into the ecosystem – where we're not really part of the team – and the players who see us at the forefront. More like film and television.”
“We live in interesting times,” Bear says. As Beart points out, when compared to more traditional acting mediums like film, story-driven games like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, for which Baldur's Gate 3 alum Jennifer English won the Best Lead Actress award at the Golden Joysticks, seem to have increased fan loyalty not only to the game's characters, but also to their actors.
Even so, Bear says video game actors need to take their own initiative to capture the dynamics because studios won't necessarily do it for them. “I think we're weaponizing social media and algorithms for this,” she tells us, “because I think we're still seen as outsourcing companies most of the time.”
Likewise, the 33rd Expedition actor Charlie Cox recently reminded the industry how many talented people it takes to create even one good-looking hero. in the game, attributing the conversion of the main character Gustave to actor Maxence Cazorla, captivating his performance.
“This is kind of Cox and helps shed light on some very specific issues related to video game performance,” – said the voice of Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2 Roger Clark. “It takes a village.”
Karlach's actor from Baldur's Gate 3 says the biggest misconception about the tiefling is that she is a “sweet” and “happy-go-lucky person”: “She was part of Hell.”
