B.C. Conservative leader Rustad says he won’t quit, despite executives’ demand letter – Brandon Sun

VICTORIA — British Columbia Conservative Leader John Rustad says he will not resign after members of the party's leadership committee told him to quit due to “chaos” within the party.

Committee members, including party president Aisha Estey, say in the letter that the turmoil under Rustad has undermined the party's credibility and destabilized its cohesion.

The seven signatories of the letter to Rustad say he has a responsibility to unite the party behind a common vision and his leadership has “no longer served that purpose.”

The signatories, who identify themselves as current committee members, say Rustad needs to resign immediately so that a new leadership contest can be held.

The letter comes after MP Amelia Boultby quit the BC Conservative caucus on Monday, becoming the fifth MLA to leave since last year's provincial election brought the party to the brink of power.

The results of last month's leadership review gave Rustad 70.6% support among voting members, but some party members raised concerns about the fairness of the process.
