As IGN reported last week, the trailer opens with a figure on a motorcycle approaching a familiar 1950s house that Marvel fans may recognize from the closing scene of Avengers: Endgame. Inside the house, it turns out to be Chris Evans' Steve Rogers, who folds up his Captain America uniform and picks up a small child. The text on the screen then reads: “Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Judgment Day.” We then see a countdown to the December 2026 release date of Avengers: Judgment Day, as well as a Doctor Doom-themed Avengers logo.
Steve Rogers was last seen happy in the 1950s with Peggy Carter, presumably having completed his final mission to return the Infinity Stones to their original places in the timeline. Doomsday could explain how Rogers managed to return to the main MCU reality to hand over his shield (according to MCU time travel rules, he should technically be in a new branch of reality instead).
The character was one of the original Avengers and played a key role in Avengers: Endgame, which grossed $2.7 billion. The return of the original Captain America will undoubtedly attract a huge audience, especially for those who have lost interest in Marvel over the past few years amid a string of disappointing entries in its Multiverse saga.
However, Some have criticized Marvel's decision to bring Steve Rogers back into the fold. as a “desperate” attempt to win back audiences through new characters, especially Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson. IGN also elaborated on this issue, suggesting that it exposed Marvel's failure to introduce more fan-favorite characters in the years since Endgame..
Chris Evans reunites with former co-stars Robert Downey Jr. (Doctor Doom) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) in Avengers: Judgment Day. A recent report showed that four separate trailers will be released over four weeksdesigned to encourage repeat viewings of Avatar 3 and entertain audiences with a series of major reveals. It is reported that Thor will be next. Doctor Doom teaser expected to be released next week.
Avengers: Judgment Day will hit theaters on December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars will appear a year later.
