AU Deals: I Was Not Planning to Buy Games Today, Then These Bargains Happened

I sat down to check my sanity on a few discounts and somehow emerged again a few hours later with a more complete wish list and a lighter wallet. On Switch, Hades and Ori still feels like magicians disguised as games. On Xbox Series X, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds provide absurd entertainment value that could fill an entire weekend. PS5 is brimming with personality this week thanks to Astro Bot and Lies of P, while PC quietly delivers one of the strongest long-form RPGs and action games out there. Walk among it.

This day in games 🎂

In retro news, it's been 26 years since I set off the adventure in Donkey Kong 64a game that some call the best rare 3D platformer (I still prefer Banjo Kazooie). It looked great and sounded amazing at the time (hello, DK Rap), and was overwhelmed with crap to collect and unique Kong abilities to switch between. Kong just recently returned to Donkey Kong Bananzatoo much. I dug it.

So they are finally here and performing for you. If you know the words, you can join too…

Good Savings for Nintendo Switch

I keep coming back to Switch's offerings that reward dedication. Strong design, expressive music and games that respect your time or, in any case, joyfully steal it.

A still from the Hades trailer that debuted at The Game Awards 2018.

  • Hades (-70%) AUD 11.20 Supergiant turns roguelike repetition into a strength, with reactive dialogue and gods that remember your failures. I've finished this more times than I'll admit.
  • Brave Default II (-38%) AUD 49.10 An old school JRPG system with modern quality of life improvements. Risk versus reward combat that really makes grinding fun.
  • Borderlands 3 Ult. (-50%) AUD 44.60 A bustling loot fountain with some of the best gunplay the series has ever seen. Writing sometimes misses, but shooting never does.
  • Ni No Kuni: WotW (-33%) AUD 59.90 It has a Studio Ghibli atmosphere, amazing music, and a combat system that rewards patience. Still one of the most beautiful JRPG worlds.
  • Ori and the Blind Forest, def. AUD 7.40 A master class in movement and melancholy. A platformer that feels effortless as soon as it clicks, backed by a catchy soundtrack.

  • Wild Monster Hunters (-64%) AUD 41.90 Methodical combat, absurd creature designs, and the familiar cycle of prepare, hunt, celebrate, and repeat. It's more dangerous.
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 (-75%) AUD 22.40 Rockstar at its most indulgent. Slow, thoughtful, and emotionally heavier than most open world games dare to be.
  • Hogwarts Legacy (-57%) AUD 47 The castle exploration here is the real star. The flying lessons and secret passages still feel magical.
  • DOOM: Dark Ages (-59%) AUD 49 Brutal, fast and gloriously raw. DOOM experiments with tone without losing its identity as a face.
  • Borderland 4 (-59%) AUD 49 More refinements than reimaginings, but co-op chaos still rings when the guns start flying.

Xbox One
Old equipment, but the price is still ridiculous. These are content-rich packages that have aged much better than expected.

just like me did this last holiday seasonI'm celebrating with a LEGO section. At Matthew Manor my sons and I are racing/ranking the 2025 batch again. LEGO Advent Calendars. Basically, we open The City, Harry Potter, Minecraft and Star Wars every day and compare the mini trophies for Awesomeness and Real Christmas. The 2024 winner was Lego Marvel, but surprisingly there is no 2025 equivalent. So this year it's anyone's race.

Here are the cheapest prices for the four calendars we use. Check them out for yourself or simply live through our unboxings.
