This day in games 🎂

In retro news, I use sparks from an unexplained fire in Cañonero to light a 22-candle cake for Simpsons Hit and Run. I have vivid memories of loading up this Springfield sandbox at launch and feeling my justifiable skepticism evaporate (because I'd already lived through downright terrible games like Simpsons Wrestling And Road rage). When the credits rolled around, I was offered nothing but authentic voice acting, quality jokes, Easter eggs with fan service, and an absolutely gorgeous Treehouse of Horror quest. It's still funny that this game hasn't been updated yet.

Good Savings for Nintendo Switch

On the switch Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom still seems like witchcraft. Physics-based creativity remains unmatched, and discovering all the human-made inventions online is half the fun. Meanwhile, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes features some of the most exciting combat Koei Tecmo has ever produced, as well as a gripping story that still surprises me to this day.

Exciting Xbox Deals

On Xbox Series X, Assassin's Creed Mirage takes me back to the series' stealth roots. It's a grittier, smarter experience that scratches that old-school itch. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is another gem that revives 2D combat with silky combat and bold art design inspired by Persian miniatures.

For Xbox One players: Dishonored 2 remains a masterclass in stealth, with every corridor hiding a dozen possibilities. Arkane's world-building and mechanical precision make every playthrough a new puzzle. What's left of Edith Finch this is its emotional opposite, a story that will quietly destroy you.

Net results for PlayStation

On PS5, Ghost of Yothei My obsession lately has been combining snowy landscapes with precise swordplay. It is clear that this conveys the same samurai melancholy. Ghost of Tsushima nailed it. Meanwhile, Just Dance 2021 never misses an opportunity to break the ice at parties, although this often hurts my dignity.

On PS4, DUM Eternal remains cathartic perfection. There's something deeply satisfying about turning demons into heavy metal confetti. Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus doubles down on the chaos with a pulpy alternate history and a main game that deserves more attention.

Buy cheap for PC

Finally, PC players can get some serious benefits. Chiaroscuro: Expedition 33 is a stunning French RPG that combines painting-inspired visuals with turn-based precision. AND The Witcher 3: Complete continues to set the standard for open world storytelling. Even after hundreds of hours, I still find new side quests.
