Ark 2 scene-setter and anime crossover expansion comes to Ark: Survival Ascended this December

It's been so long since the dinosaur survival sequel came out. Ark 2 was open, it ridiculous CGI trailer starring Vin Diesel almost feels like a dream. But developer Studio Wildcard remains adamant that it's still happening, and is setting the stage for its arrival with a brand new Ark: Ascension Survival expansion Ark: Lost Colony, which will be released on December 16th.

Officially, Lost Colony serves as the bridge between 2018's Ark expansion Extinction and its 2019 sequel Genesis, while also laying the groundwork for Ark 2. But it doesn't end there. Lost Colony Also connections with Ark (only 50 percent still on air) animated seriesbringing some of the show's star actors into play. So you can expect to hear from the likes of Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh, David Tennant, Battlestar Galactic's Katee Sackhoff and more – all appearing in Japanese studio MAPPA's “cinematic anime scenes” – when Lost Colony releases on Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC in December.

Lost Colony is described as “the first canonical expansion of Survival Ascended” and takes the player to the snowy wastes of Arath Prime – the birthplace of ARK – where they will follow in the footsteps of Mei Yin on an “intense journey into the heart of darkness.” There's talk of “lost” character ability trees to unlock, “cursed” gear tiers and new building systems to create, as well as new creatures to tame, including Ossidon, a “lumbering, crafted apex of winter predator.”

Players looking to explore Ossidon ahead of Lost Colony's December arrival can do so now, but only by purchasing the Ark: Survival Ascended £29.99/$29.99 USD Lost Colony Expansion Pass. Cough, and Ossidon can be thought of as “pre-game content” on existing maps, as he temporarily roams the cold biomes of Ragnarok, Valghero, and Center.

The Lost Colony arrives approximately six months after its originally announced launch window in Junebut still no indication of when repeatedly postponed Ark 2 may appear. It was originally announced in 2020 (with that stupid Vin Diesel trailer), but it wasn't included in the Ark content roadmap released earlier this year, leading many to speculate that it won't arrive until December 2026 at the earliest. Studio Wildcard is certainly no stranger to delays; Even the second half of the animated TV show The Ark, originally promised for 2024, couldn't escape the curse, and maturity date sometime next year.
