Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande say they are working on “Wicked: For Good” changed them—forever.
During a November 12 appearance on TODAY, the duo recalled what it was like starring together in the second edition of the beloved Broadway show.
“Having the opportunity to play with this girl, share space and be a scene partner with you has been the greatest privilege of my professional life. Not to mention singing with her, the greatest singer in the whole world. I’m spoiled for life,” Grande said, which excited Erivo.
“Thank you. “I love you,” she replied.
When asked how they were able to build such a strong friendship on set, Erivo said she thinks she and Grande are “like opposite sides of the same coin.”
“So I think we each have something that the other can love and see in themselves… It's really just being honest with each other,” she added.
When Sheinelle asked the duo to share a behind-the-scenes moment that still stands out to this day, Grande recalled Erivo encouraging her vocal performance.
“I'll never forget when you yelled 'work'… she liked something that was vocal, so when she sang she screamed 'work.' And I thought: this is the best day of my life,” Grande said. “It was really funny. It was good.”
Erivo also recalled that day and said she has a tendency to congratulate others at the moment.
“I don't know how to contain it. If I hear something that I really like, if she does something that I really like, very clearly, I have to express myself verbally,” she said.
“It was the best moment of my life,” Grande added.
“Wicked: For Good” hits theaters on November 21st.
Grande and Erivo attended the “Wicked” premiere in London on November 10 wearing matching dark dresses. Grande opted for a black tulle ballgown designed by Gilbert Adrian in 1995, while Erivo wore a stunning navy and black Prada gown. They were photographed holding hands on the red carpet.
