After the Arc Raiders server attack ended, players dispersed, telling stories of their daring escapes and dangerous situations. But one common experience bonded many nervous raiders: be afraid of tumbleweeds.
It sounds strange, but there is a good reason for it. In Arc Raiders, and all extraction shooters for that matter, an enemy player jumping on you often means certain death. Thus, you must always be alert, keep your eyes and ears on high alert to avoid misfortune.
Tumbleweeds move with the wind at ground level in the same way that enemy players do. and therefore took the players by surprise. They also make some noise that can be mistaken for another player moving nearby.
They're common, too: Any player who was walking around during the server hit last weekend would have seen some of them bouncing around. They were added to the game recently as part of a wide range of tweaks and improvements to Arc Raiders, so even experienced players who have tried the game before were scared of the tumbleweeds.
Arc Raiders actually has a fair amount of audio triggers that can give away your location or just add to the stress of walking around the map. This is true for bushes, flocks of birds resting on the ground, and also for much louder environmental triggers such as opening doors and breaking open drawers with a large hammer.
Arc Raiders proved extremely popular in the first few hours of the final public test last weekend.quickly attracting nearly 100,000 concurrent players on Steam alone. The full game is scheduled for release on October 30th, after which players will be able to experience all the game's features, tumbleweeds, and more.
