September saw Apple reveal fresh iPhones, apple watch and more, which means the company is now gearing up for its traditional October product launch. According to the latest rumors, they will be based on the new M5 chip, which will find use in everything from iPads and MacBooks to Vision Pro headset.
In fact, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman writes in his latest Power On Fact Sheet that Apple plans to lift restrictions on these products this week. If you're wondering what we might see, we've covered all the latest rumors below, helping you get your head around the release date in time.
1. MacBook M5 Pro
Apple releases new ones frequently MacBook Pro models in October, and it looks like it will happen again. Changes this year are expected to be minor, with the only major change being the new M5 chip. This chip is touted to offer better performance and efficiency than the M4 chip that came before it.
However, if you were hoping for much more, you may be disappointed. Although there are rumors that Apple is working on an updated MacBook Pro with OLED display and a thinner body, not expected to arrive until after the M6 chip arrives.
However, there is an interesting change from Apple regarding the M5 chip: the company may split launch different levels of M5 chips. That means the M5 model could be released this week, while MacBook Pro models equipped with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips are scheduled for early 2026.
It's not immediately clear why this will happen, but the news outlet AppleInsider claims to have talked to sources at Apple “who have the knowledge macOS Tahoe development and testing of equipment”, which confirmed these deadlines.
2. iPad M5 Pro
In early October, the technology world was rocked by the news that an unreleased M5 iPad Pro was leaked to a couple of Russian YouTuberswho posted a video with a complete unboxing and inspection of the devices.
The tablets were fully functional and looked like genuine, albeit unreleased, Apple products, suggesting their launch was imminent. This idea was fixed obvious leak from AT&TAccording to the company's website, you'll soon be able to pre-order the iPad Pro M5.
According to testing by one YouTube user, the M5 chip in the iPad Pro delivers 10% better single-core performance, 16% better multi-core performance, and 34% better graphics performance compared to the M4 chip.
Presumably, the M5 chip in the MacBook Pro should offer similar improvements. However, just like the MacBook Pro, the iPad Pro M5 is expected to be just a minor chip upgrade and nothing more.
3. Vision Pro update
The Vision Pro never reached the heights Apple hoped for, so can the second-generation model improve the situation? Based on rumors about this product, this is far from guaranteed, as industry rumors suggest that the Vision Pro 2 will feature a faster M5 chip and a better strap to make it more comfortable to wear for long periods of time, but with some other changes.
Unfortunately, this means that Apple doesn't seem to have any intention of addressing some of the underlying issues that plagued the original Vision Pro. While a new strap would be welcome, it looks like Apple won't be reducing the actual weight of the headset. Price also appears to be a point of contention, as the cheaper Vision Pro reportedly postponed to allow Apple to focus on what's coming augmented reality glasses.
So, these are the three products that will bring small updates rather than major changes this week. But these aren't the only devices on Apple's roadmap: Gurman says updated versions of the HomePod mini, AirTag, and Apple TV are coming soon, as well as the iPhone 17e, M5 MacBook Air, and versions of the M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro. However, we may have to wait until next year for some of these products to appear.
