Apple is working on a new platform to make it easier to transfer third-party app data between iOS and Android devices.
The new platform, called the App Migration Kit, will be available to anyone with a compatible device running iOS or iPadOS 16.1 or later.
Like the OSes mentioned, this new platform is currently in beta testing. It is noted that the framework will not be used to transfer data between iOS and iPadOS; rather, according to the documentation surrounding the new platform, it will be used strictly between Apple devices and third-party devices.
The documentation also states that developers can determine whether their applications will import data, export data, or do both. How 9To5Mac indicates that this is done by creating an application extension that conforms to the new protocol and at least one of its subprotocols.
This way, when a user decides to set up a new device, data from all applications that implement the new application migration kit will be included in the package. According to 9To5Mac, Once the transfer is completed, the developer can import the data stored in the cloud to the target device.
Along with this new structure, Apple is also working on adding an option in Settings (Settings > General > Transfer or reset iPhone) called Transfer to Android. Once you select the option, the screen will show you what can and cannot be transferred during the migration process.
As it is being developed as a simpler solution for transferring data between two operating systems, Android is also reportedly developing a 'Transfer to iPhone' feature. Now there is application developed by Applebut it appears to be a built-in solution that works alongside Apple's new platform.
