I worked in MobileSyrup for the past eight years, and because of my love for smartphones, I'm always curious to know what phone someone is using. Some people “people watch” but when I'm on the subway I “phone watch” to see what phones are popular.
I've seen more Pixels and a few Samsung flip phones on the street, which is interesting, but most of the time it's still iPhones and various Samsung models.
Even though I see them all the time, I sometimes have a hard time telling which iPhone is which. Despite working in MobileSyrupI can't remember all the changes to niche iPhone models. I know that if it has large bezels and a button, then it is old, if it has a notch, then it is old, but not that old, and if it has a Dynamic Island, then it is newer.
However new iPhone 17 pro in Cosmic Orange looks so unique that it's simply iconic. Its bright color and large camera bump, which has changed the look of iPhone cases, make it easy to spot. Even the other colors of the 17 Pro are quite easy to distinguish from older models thanks to the new camera design.
This could be a bad thing or a good thing, but either way it makes the iPhone 17 Pro stand out sooooo much. From the moment I see the hard to miss orange color, I know what kind of phone it is. Literally, while the subway was passing me (I missed the doors by a second), I saw a man rush by holding his bright orange iPhone 17 Pro – it's crazy.
In addition to the blazing bright orange color, what's odd is the camera bump, as well as the slightly odd two-tone hue of the aluminum frame on a pale ceramic protective backing. I'm not even sure if I like it; however, all this together emphasizes the individuality of the phone and, as I said, makes it an icon.
There are rumors that Samsung Galaxy S26 It may use the same orange color as the 17 Pro, but even with that color, the iPhone's unusual back design will still make it stand out. Samsung will probably use almost the same design as in previous years, just with a new coat of paint. Taking it a step further, I'm not sure the orange trend will be as unique in a few months.
I'm not one who usually has FOMO, but at the Snapdragon Summit a few weeks ago, most of the tech reviewers had the Cosmic Orange iPhone and I felt like I was missing out on something.
Of course, there are other flashy phones, such as Nothing Phone 3, Pixel 9a, And iPhone Air; however, of everything available in Canada this year, the 17 Pro takes the cake. (This means that I have not taken into account phones from Xiaomi, Vivo and other brands since they are not sold in the North.)
In all seriousness, a phone that's hard to miss is great marketing for Apple, and the company should continue to make design changes in fun colors in the future. Maybe they'll even return the color is updated in the middle of the cycle, as it was in the 13th episode.. Because I've never been more excited to get an iPhone, and I think a lot of other people feel the same way. Who would have thought that the best new thing this year is color.
