Apple is reportedly considering stockpiling its inventory for the launch of its first foldable iPhone next year. This rumor comes out of China, with the source of the information indicating that they received information from sources in Apple's supply chain.
Leakage Digital fixed focus wrote on Weibo that Apple is stockpiling components for its foldable iPhone Fold (this is not the official name of the phone). These components include foldable OLED displays, titanium frames and sophisticated hinges. The company is also entering a pre-production phase, where it assembles parts before going into mass production. Additionally, the accumulation of components helps ensure a smooth start-up.
Rumors suggest that the iPhone Fold will feature a book-folding mechanism similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold. The device is expected to use a 5.5-inch external display and will look like a regular iPhone screen. When you unfold the smartphone, it reveals a 7.8-inch iPad-style screen. The internal display is expected to be wrinkle-free and some sources claim it will feature an under-display camera. The external display will feature a punch-hole camera, and Apple will reportedly add Touch ID built into the side button instead of using Face ID. Additionally, the device will feature a dual camera setup on the back.
Analyst Jeff Pu says the phone's body will be a combination of titanium and aluminum. liquid metal loops for added strength. Moreover, the iPhone Fold is rumored to be 4.5mm thick when opened, making it even thinner than the iPhone Air but still slightly thicker than the iPhone Fold. Galaxy Z Fold 7.
