Apple beta includes option to effectively turn off Liquid Glass

Apple may soon let you roll back one of iOS 26's most controversial features – well, sort of.

In the latest iOS 26.1 developer beta, Apple is testing a new mode that effectively disables Liquid Glass. A feature that debuted with iPhone 17 series Last month, it unveiled a translucent “glassmorph” look designed to make Apple's user interface “more expressive and delightful, yet instantly recognizable” across all devices. However, it was also criticized for being illegible and lacking contrast. and some even call it “Liquid Ass.”

So it looks like Apple is going to give people multiple options. In the latest developer beta, users can select a new Tinted option that significantly darkens the liquid glass.

It's funny how Tinted resembles the look and feel of iOS 18, which was even pointed out by several X (Twitter) users. Some commenters like the Tinted alternative, while others still prefer Liquid Glass. Since this is a beta version, there is no guarantee that Tinted will ever actually make it to consumers. Let's hope Apple at least adds this option so both camps can make their own choices.
