Apple's latest iOS 26.1 beta introduces a new option that lets you tint Liquid Glass elements in iOS 26 to make them more opaque. Since the announcement of Liquid Glass at WWDC this year, Apple has changed how glassy is liquid glass – used to exist some legibility issues — but this new setting gives you the option to make objects more transparent or more matte.
The option is now available in the developer beta of iOS 26.1, which Apple released on Monday. You can access it in Settings > Display & Brightness > Liquid Glass, where you can choose between Clear and Tinted. The latest iPadOS 26.1 and macOS 26.1 developer betas also allow you to tint liquid glass, McRumors reports.
Here are some image sliders showing how things look with clear or tinted liquid glass. For each, the screenshot on the left shows the app with the “Transparent” liquid glass option, and the screenshot on the right shows the app with the “Tinted” option. The differences are subtle, but I prefer the tinted versions.
The Liquid Glass switch isn't the only handy new option Apple has added in the latest iOS 26.1 beta. The update also lets you disable the ability to swipe the camera from the lock screen, which could prevent people who have your phone from taking pictures even if they can't bypass your lock screen. You can access the switch in Settings > Camera > Swipe across the lock screen to open the camera.
