Full throttle in Apex Legends
Apex Legends released a mid-season update to Amped, bringing the Winter Wipeout event to the forefront, as well as sweeping gameplay changes and new rewards. The limited-time event Winter Annihilation has begun and will run until January 27, offering players a winter-themed Olympus experience with new mechanics and strategic options.
At the heart of the event is the Wildcard mode, which introduces hoverboards to Apex Legends. These boards allow legends to glide across terrain, ride along walls, and perform aerial stunts. Successful stunts reward players with increased speed and EVO progression, encouraging aggressive movement and creative combat approaches across the map.
The update also makes significant changes to the balance of legends. Octane receives significant mobility improvements, including faster healing when low on health, a new Stim Surge ability, and expanded launch pad functionality with improved mid-air controls and expanded jumping capabilities. Crypto's reconnaissance capabilities are enhanced with faster drone deployment, wider visibility, and EMP improvements that now disable enemy amplifiers. Several previous upgrades are now part of its base kit, opening up new strategic paths. Newcastle becomes more formidable on the front lines with faster shields, stronger defenses, and upgrades that improve survivability, revival, and combat readiness.
Winter Wipeout also introduces new wild cards that add tactical variety. This includes Brain Freeze to slow down enemies, Love Potion to support your team, and Defensive Launch to regenerate your shield. Throughout the event, players can earn Glint to unlock themed cosmetics such as winter sports-inspired Legendary skins and the new Apex Stellaris Prestige skin from Horizon.
