- Motion Cues could be ready to launch on Android
- Fights seasickness while traveling
- We first saw hints of this feature last year.
A year ago, a new Android feature called Motion Cues was introduced. was noticed hidden in Google Play Service code, the launch of which is obviously inevitable. He hasn't appeared yet – but that could change soon.
Once again we owe it to the team Android authority to carry out the necessary excavations, and it seems that this function still exists. However, the limitations of Android itself are the reason why it has not yet launched.
Motion Cues, like a similar feature in iOS, will draw dots on the screen that move based on the phone's actual movement—theoretically reducing nausea because it means your brain won't be as confused about whether you're moving or not.
However, drawing these dots on top of the key settings panels requires elevated security permissions, which Motion Cues does not yet have. The restrictions are in place to prevent hackers from tampering with the icons and menus that control how your phone works.
Will we arrive soon?
The latest version of Android Canary—pre-beta software in which Google engineers test new features—appears to transfer responsibility for Motion Cues to a more fundamental part of Android with additional security rights.
This means that dots that sync with your phone's movement will be able to completely cover the screen, even if you're viewing important system settings or the Quick Settings panel is pushed down from the top of the screen.
Once this new approach has been tested and implemented, it will be made public. It could very well arrive as part of the Android 17 update, which we expect to hear more about over the next few months.
Applea version of it called Vehicle Motion Cues was introduced in iOS 18 and works in a similar way: you can manage and enable this feature from the main settings screen by tapping Accessibility > Traffic > Vehicle Signals.
