Andrei Markov confirms: he had an offer to continue his career in Montreal

Andrey Markov had a good career with the Habs. Despite several serious injuries, he made his mark and will rightfully be honored at the Bell Center next week. He stopped the clock at 990 games, despite the fact that he would have liked to have played many more.

Tonight Markov was a guest of La Poche Blue and spoke with a smile about his time in Montreal, and especially about the end of the match.

Let us remember that in the summer of 2017, he and the Canadiens did not come to an agreement, and the Russian defender chose to end his career in his native Russia.

“I remember that year I had negotiations with the Habs. I wanted to play two years, I wanted to play two years and then retire. They (Canadiens) only offered me one year,” Andrey Markov

The former No. 79 admitted that the thought of not being able to play 1,000 games for the Habs in later years was in the back of his mind, but it has since been forgotten.

He is happy to say that he played in all the games for the same organization.

Markov has returned to the city twice in the past year with his family, and he loves it when people still stop to talk to him or ask for a photo.

To me, he's another player that the Habs and I took for granted. I remember in 2017 then-GM Marc Bergevin thought his defense would be better without Markov. It was a mistake to let him go, especially considering that he was still playing good hockey. The Habs defense certainly didn't improve and it took a long time to recover.

Then the Habs should have let him play all 1,000 games, no matter the circumstances. This was another big mistake. I'm glad to see he gets an award next week. He certainly deserves a standing ovation.

After a while

“The Oilers can’t take it anymore.”

– Another story follows.

– Good news for Sens.

– Denis Dubé sees Matheson as a long-term deal with the Habs.

– An aspect that needs to be worked on.
