Amazon, one of the richest corporations in the world, paid a comparatively pittance for control of the James Bond franchise: $20 million.
This means Amazon paid less than $25 million, which Daniel Craig reportedly got paid for his latest Bond film, No time to die.
Per Hollywood ReporterThe revelation came from a UK tax return filed by EON Productions, the former 007 franchise production company run by Barbara Broccoli and her half-brother Michael J. Wilson.
Duet sold the rights to the Bond franchise to Amazon in Februarygiving the tech giant full creative control over all James Bond intellectual property, a stunning move that has angered some Bond fans and Amazon critics.
“On February 20, 2025, the company entered into an agreement to sell its interest in the Bond franchise, all related assets, and its subsidiaries B24 Limited and B25 Limited. The total consideration for the sale was US$20 million,” EON said in a statement.
But as THR notes, it's likely that Broccoli and Wilson will end up making much more than just $20 million from the franchise their family has run since the 1960s.
According to the deal, “The Broccoli family will continue to have economic influence over the Bond franchise through the joint venture structure of the deal. It is also possible that there are other elements, such as earnings or stock options, that could affect the value of the final sale price. Sources said at the time that the total value could approach $1 billion.”
