By now we all know it Sydney Sweeney has been at the center of controversy since July this year, when the American Eagle star's campaign sparked backlash after she was accused of implicitly glorifying whiteness and promotion of eugenics.
The advertising campaign was carried out under the slogan: “Sidney Sweeney has excellent [genes]” and one of the commercials focused on Sydney's blonde hair and blue eyes when she said, “Genes are passed from parents to offspring, often determining traits such as eye color, personality and even hair color. My jeans are blue.”
But as with all scandals, it ended up being a bust… Until last week, when the controversy flared up tenfold after Sydney broke her silence on the backlash in a controversial magazine interview GQ. Here she downplayed the whole situation and refused to comment on the interpretation that the ad was about eugenics.
When asked directly if she would like to respond to the specific criticism that “white people shouldn't make jokes about genetic superiority” in the current political climate, Sydney responded, “I think when I have an issue that I want to talk about, people will listen.”
Suffice it to say that I didn’t really like the quotes, and the video recording of the interview only made the situation worsewhen people shouted about her nonchalant behavior as she answered questions. For the record: Sydney made faces and laughed, and even rolled her eyes when asked about “genetic superiority.”
Content creator Jupiter Baal criticized Sydney in videowhich you can read more about Hereand added in the caption: “#SydneySweeney is not innocent.
