Alvin Kamara likes what he’s seen from rookie Saints QB Tyler Shough

He's had to watch most of Tyler Shaw's success from the sidelines while dealing with several different injuries, but Alvin Kamara has been impressed with the game. “I see a player who is ready to take on more responsibility,” Kamara said of the freshman QB. “He has intangibles that help him on the field. He always strives to make something out of nothing.”

This ability to avoid pressure and keep the game going speaks volumes. As Shaw gains more experience, Kamara sees how to build an offense around him: “You see a quarterback that makes you feel good about where you're going in the future.”

It may seem disingenuous to call the 26-year-old quarterback inexperienced, but Shaw only dropped back and passed the ball 1,095 times during his college career. He has walked nearly a third of the way (305) in his time with the Saints. He is actively studying, developing and preparing to show his best football. And this is encouraging. If Shaw can finish strong these final two weeks and work hard this offseason with new weapons and defense, the Saints have a real chance to compete next year.

Will Kamara be involved in this? Time will show. He faces a decision in the spring after missing the last four and a half games with knee and ankle injuries. Kamara signed a contract extension last year that tied him to the Saints through 2026, guaranteeing $18.2 million of his $18.6 million salary cap hit. So the ball is in his court. And he definitely sounds like someone eager to help Shaw take the next step. Let's see how this plays out.
