I test a lot of wearables through Lifehacker, and despite all the fancy fitness watches and smartwatches, I generally find that the entry-level models are the most useful option for the average runner or the average person who only wants to track some exercise.

There are plenty of great watches under $250, and with Black Friday deals this week, some have dropped even lower. Here are the best deals on good fitness and running watches you can find right now in this price range.

Best Black Friday Deals on Garmin Forerunners

I think the Forerunner 255 is probably Garmin's best budget option, but it's an older model at the moment. It still gets the job done, but prices can be unpredictable and many of the deals you'll find are for refurbished units. There's nothing wrong with that – just make sure you understand what you're getting. There are two sizes: 41 and 46 millimeters, and each can come with or without music storage. Please note that the 255 features a MIP screen, an older technology has its pros and cons.

The Forerunner 165 is another good entry-level choice, and our regular marathon runner really liked the music 165. Like the 255, it comes in both musical and non-musical versions, but only one size. Both are on sale for Black Friday:

Next up is the Forerunner 265, which comes at a great price, but unfortunately isn't quite in our target price range.it's $299.99. Forerunner 55however has dropped to $149.99. It's an old, simple watch, but not a bad choice if you're looking for something simple.

Best Black Friday deals on Coros Pace 3 and 4

Coros has just released the AMOLED Pace 4 and has reduced the price of the MIP Pace 3. Aside from the difference in display type, they have similar features and are a great entry-level watch. I reviewed the Pace 4which has long battery life and new voice features. Tempo 3 also a good choice. You can read my comparison of the two here. These prices aren't necessarily Black Friday prices, but if you're looking for a bargain, they should definitely be on your list.

Best Black Friday deals on Suunto Run

Suunto makes great but underrated fitness watches. I I liked Suunto Run when I tested it. His on sale for $199.99Regularly $249.99.

Best Black Friday deals on Garmin Vivoactive 5 and 6

I mentioned Garmin Forerunners above, but Garmin also makes watches for everyday use. They're not specifically designed for running, but they have great fitness features and are great for any casual runner. The Vivoactive 6 is the latest model in the line-up, making the Vivoactive 5 even more affordable. I tried both and liked them; check my Vivoactive 6 review Learn more about the differences between them.

Are Black Friday Deals Worth Spending?

In short, yes, Black Friday still offers discounts that may be rare the rest of the year. Of course, if you need to save money, the best way to save money is to not buy anything.

Are Cyber Monday deals better than Black Friday?

In the past, Black Friday was larger for big retailers and higher-end technology and appliances, while Cyber Monday was for lower-cost technology and gave small businesses the opportunity to compete online. However, at present the distinction is practically meaningless. Every major retailer will be offering sales on both days, and the smart move is to know what you want, use price trackers, or contact guides such as our live blog who use price trackers for you and don't worry about finding the perfect time.\
