Well, the Democrats' desperate kabuki stunt, also known as the “Schumer shutdown,” is finally over, and life can begin to return to normal. Let's hope the air traffic and travel situation stabilizes soon – in time for the Thanksgiving holiday – since TSA agents and air traffic controllers actually get paid to do their jobs. We can now be confident that the brave men and women of our armed forces will also continue to receive their pay.
The big question today is: Was it worth it for Democrats? (I argued absolutely not Here.)
J.D. Vance agrees and thinks the entire high school production was a waste of time. The vice president gave an interview to Fox News' Sean Hannity that will air Thursday night, but some clips have already been released. Basically, all the Democrats' achievements were rising stress levels in Americahe stated:
“That's what the Democrats actually achieved. They caused a lot of stress for our soldiers, they caused our air traffic controllers not to get paid, they caused a lot of flight cancellations, they had a lot of people who thought they wouldn't get food benefits. And it’s literally all for nothing,” Vance told Fox News host Sean Hannity in an interview that will air Thursday.
To make matters worse, the deal they finally accepted was essentially the same as the one they had been offering all along:
Vance said the House deal that ended the shutdown was identical to the one best democrats rejected weeks earlier.
“We could have done this exact deal 45 days ago,” the vice president said. “We actually met with Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer and said this is the deal we're going to do. They said no.”

Vice President Vance is criticizing Democrats for the record government shutdown, highlighting strain on troops, unpaid air traffic controllers and flight cancellations. He claims that all this was done “in vain” because the same deal could have been concluded 45 days earlier. pic.twitter.com/ePSgZkqsDN

Holy Smoke: Trump Keeps Promise to Those Who Worked During Schumer Shutdown
The vice president added that the president knew the Democrats would eventually give in because they had essentially boxed themselves in and had no other choice:
Vice President continued to praise President Donald Trump's leadership during the 43-day standoff, saying they “knew this was coming.”
“The President of the United States said every day that in the end The Democrats were going to implement it was an absurd position, we have to reopen the government, and that's exactly what they did,” Vance said.
President Trump re-signed the government funding bill Wednesday night. He signaled Monday that the government will reopen soon as the fallout from the funding shutdown continues to snowball, including missed paychecks for federal workers and airline delays caused by air traffic controller staffing shortages.
The bill ensures funding will continue through Jan. 30, 2026, while lawmakers squabble over the fiscal year 2026 funding measure. But what happens if they don't come to a new agreement by that date? Will we have to go through all this stupidity again? Will Democrats try to hold America hostage to policies that were decisively rejected in the November 2024 election?
We can only hope that they have learned a lesson from this failure. However, I'm certainly not going to hold my breath after we've seen the insanity they're capable of.
