The Minnesota Vikings have signed Calgary Stampeders defensive lineman Jaylon Hutchings to a futures contract, according to sources.
Hutchings recorded 39 defensive tackles, eight sacks and one forced fumble in 17 CFL regular-season games in 2025, his first season as a starter for the Stamps. The six-foot, 304-pound pass rusher was the league's best defensive tackle, according to All-CFL data. Professional Football Focus (PFF).
The 26-year-old signed with Calgary at the end of the 2024 campaign, suiting up for two regular-season games and making two defensive tackles. Earlier that year, Hutchings had a brief stint with the Chicago Bears but was released near the end of the team's training camp.
The Forney, Texas native starred at Texas Tech University, where he recorded 193 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one pass breakup in 61 games. He had knee surgery late in his final season with the Red Raiders, which hurt his stock in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Hutchings signed with the Bears as an undrafted free agent but was released by Chicago late in training camp. During the offseason, he worked out for the Minnesota Vikings and Cleveland Browns, resulting in a contract through 2026.
If he had not signed an NFL contract, Hutchings would have become a CFL free agent on February 10th. If the Vikings release him after that date, he will be eligible to sign with any team on either side of the border.
