Alek Manoah leaves for Los Angeles

Alec Manoj had a difficult 2025.

While recovering from Tommy John surgery, Manoah was dealt to the minors (without pitching to Toronto) once the process of his return to fitness was complete.

He was subsequently DFAed by the Blue Jays, who sent him to the Braves organization. The Braves did not offer him a deal to retain his rights, and he became a free agent. So, things went well.

And Alec Manoah managed to find a new contract for next season. As a free agent, he signed an agreement with the Los Angeles Angels. Jeff Passan was the first to report the news.

He received a guaranteed Major League contract ($1.95 million), a surprise hit, in December 2025. I wouldn't be surprised if he signed a minor league deal to restore his value.

But if we go back in time, seeing him sign that price during his first free-agent appearance would still be… a surprise.

By signing with the Angels, a club that has to take similar bets to try and get out of trouble, Manoah will have some breathing room to try and become the starter he can become again.

Will this work? We'll have to see.

IF Manoj never becomes a good pitcher again, the Angels won't have to pay too much to try anything. And at best, he can once again become one of the best in his profession.

Which scenario will come true?
