Ritchson plays Thornton, who leads a desperate last stand after five men are trapped behind enemy lines in North Vietnam in the final days of the war. Outnumbered by an army of 150 soldiers, they fight under relentless enemy fire before making a harrowing retreat into the South China Sea. With a severely wounded lieutenant and fellow soldier strapped to him, Thornton swims for hours through hostile waters to reach safety, an act for which he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
The film is produced by three-time Oscar nominee Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller of Balboa Productions, Todd Lieberman and Alex Young of Hidden Pictures, Alan Ritchson's AllyCat Entertainment and Alan Routhbort. Xuande has starred in A24 and HBO series. Sympathetic from award-winning director Park Chan-Uk, based on Viet Thanh Nguyen's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name. For his performance, Xuande was nominated for The Independent Spirit Awards and The Gotham Awards. Xuande will next be seen in an independent feature film.
