Last College football Playoffs The top three in the rankings remained unchanged, but due to the big loss of the previous team in fourth place, they dropped down the list.

Alabama Crimson Tide lost at home to the Oklahoma Sooners, 23-21, and it cost them dearly in the eyes of the selection committee. They dropped from 4th to 10th place.

Meanwhile, the Georgia Bulldogs, ranked fifth in each of the first two rankings, moved up to fourth.

Ohio State, Indiana and Texas A&M will remain 1st to 3rd respectively to complete the top four, all of whom would have received a bye if the playoffs began today.

However, it was interesting to see the Crimson Tide behind the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who are in ninth place in the rankings. Notre Dame has no more wins in the top 25 this season, and Alabama has four wins to one.

Texas Tech moved into fifth place, followed by Ole Miss, Oregon and Oklahoma, which moved up to eighth after a big road win in Tuscaloosa.

Outside of the top 10, BYU is in 11th place, followed by Utah, Miami, Vanderbilt and USC rounding out the top 15. The Hurricanes especially had a big weekend, defeating North Carolina State 41-7, helping them move up two spots in the rankings.

Of course, with an overall record of 8-2 in both Miami and Notre Dame, the Hurricanes and their fans are certainly not happy about being four spots behind the Fighting Irish, considering they beat them earlier this season.

“Criterion No. 1 is always confrontation with each other. That’s why we play this game, right?” Miami head coach Mario Cristobal announced the news via ESPN. “That has always been and always will be the No. 1 factor.”

The other side of the argument, however, is how the Hurricanes picked up their two losses compared to Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish lost to the Hurricanes and Texas Longhorns, both ranked teams. Miami, however, was upset this season by missing Louisville and SMU in the rankings.

Speaking of the Longhorns, they moved up to 17th place after their lopsided 35-10 loss to Georgia, which pushed them to 7-3 on the year. Georgia Tech is ahead of them in 16th place, with Michigan (18), Virginia (19) and Tennessee (20) trailing behind them.

Rounding out the top 25 are Illinois, Missouri, Houston, Tulane and Arizona, respectively.

As always, the five highest-ranked conference champions will compete in a 12-team field this playoff season. But as a reminder, this will be a direct seeding model, not one in which every B-4 conference winner gets an automatic bye.

There are just two weeks left in the regular season, followed by the conference championships that will ultimately determine how the College Football Playoff field changes.
