AI-generated clip falsely linked to strained healthcare system in northern Indian state

The public health system in India's most populous state of Uttar Pradesh is strained by entrenched corruption, staff shortages, overcrowded hospitals and poor facilities, but there were no official reports that a patient fell from a moving ambulance in December. A video of the alleged incident, published online in posts critical of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was actually created by artificial intelligence, its creator told AFP.

“Imagine you are in Uttar Pradesh. Is this what an ideal kingdom should look like? reads X post in Hindi share video from December 10, 2025.

The video shows a patient on a stretcher falling out of the open back door of a moving ambulance and rolling down the highway.

The Hindi text above the video reads: “Yamuna Expressway: Look how proactive the BJP government is in caring for the needs of patients. Look at the pace of growth of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh.”

Several local news outlets reported cases entrenched corruption and abuse of official position, as well as inadequate medical facilities in hospitals in the northern state (archive Here And Here).

prime minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) says it plans modernize healthcare in Uttar Pradesh to improve disease control, maternal health and medical education (archive link).

However, Opposition Samajwadi Party chief and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav accused BJP 'destroys' state's healthcare system, citing neglect and mismanagement (archive link).

The same video of a patient apparently falling out of an ambulance was also posted with similar claims on Facebook And Instagram.

Comments on the misleading posts indicate that some users believed the video showed a real incident.

One user wrote, “In Uttar Pradesh, only God can save the patient. Shame on the Uttar Pradesh government!”

“The life of a common man has no value; corruption has destroyed this state,” wrote another.

However, there are no reliable reports of such an incident occurring on the 165.5-kilometer (102 mi) Yamuna Expressway.

Engagement bait

A reverse image search using keyframes from the clip resulted in same video on a Facebook page called “Bargachhi Krishi Farm” on December 8 (archive link).

Its caption includes a series of hashtags about agriculture and farming, but does not mention Uttar Pradesh or the Yamuna Expressway.

Page owner Hemsagar Bhattarai told AFP on December 15 that he created the video using an artificial intelligence tool to increase engagement on his social media accounts.

A Nepalese worker working in Doha said he runs the page for “extra income and entertainment” by downloading and stealing content from Chinese social media to upload to his accounts.

“I used ChatGPT and Sora AI for the first time to create a video and it went viral,” Bhattarai said.

Careful analysis of the video shows what it contains visual inconsistenciesa hallmark of AI-generated content.

The patient's oxygen mask does not appear to be connected to the tank and is not pulled out when the stretcher falls out of the ambulance.

The ambulance is also missing a door. Oddly shaped vehicles are seen on the opposite side of the road, and some appear randomly as the video plays.
