Adam Driver and Steven Soderbergh tried to make a Star Wars movie, but Disney said no

Adam Driver's time Star wars Ben Solo's performance, aka Kylo Ren, continues to be memorable. It was interesting to watch Kylo Ren struggle against his own legacy as Darth Vader's grandson, as well as the manipulations of those around him, namely Supreme Leader Snoke. By the end of 2019 The Rise of SkywalkerRen decided to turn away from the dark side, saving Daisy Ridley's Rey at the cost of his own life.

You'd think this would be the end of Kylo Ren's journey. But, as it turned out, this was not the case. And no, we're not talking about the fact that he now has his own comic series.

Talking to APDriver recalled that he was always interested in starring in another Star Wars film. “I have been talking about making another film since 2021. Kathleen (Kennedy) reached out to us. I always said: with a great director and a great story, I'll be there in a second. I loved the character and I loved playing him.”

Driver liked the character so much that he took the concept Infection And Black bag director Steven Soderbergh for a film set after The Rise of Skywalker. You might already be scratching your head a little: didn't Kylo Ren die in this movie? Yes, but if there's one thing you should take away from Star Wars, it's that anyone can be brought back. Look at Anakin Skywalker and Darth Maul. One of the Force ghosts Ahsokaand the other was cut in half and still managed to get around Clone Wars The animated series is only about pure hatred. The return of Kylo Ren was out of the question.

More importantly, Driver, Soderbergh, and screenwriter Rebecca Blunt felt Kylo Ren had more to give. They outlined the story and pitched it to Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, Vice President Cary Beck, and Creative Director Dave Filoni. All three became interested and even invited Scott Z. Burns, known for his work on Infection And Bourne Ultimatumto write the script. According to Driver, the script was “one of the coolest (expletive) scripts I've ever been involved in.”

And although Lucasfilm liked the idea, the project fell apart the moment it was presented to Disney.

“We took it to Bob Iger and Alan Bergman and they said no. They didn't see Ben Solo alive. And that’s it,” Driver told the AP. “It was called The Hunt for Ben Solo and it was really cool. But it’s gone, so I can finally talk about it.”

Soderbergh said in a statement: “I really enjoyed creating the film in my head. I'm just sad that fans won't get to see it.”

A disappointing ending for Star Wars fans eager to see more of Kylo Ren or whatever else comes after the sequel trilogy. They can turn things around in 2027 with Shawn Levy. Starfighterbut for fans of Kylo Ren, the news is bittersweet.
