Actress Amanda Seyfried “won't apologize a damn thing” for calling conservative activist Charlie Kirk hateful shortly after his murder.
After Kirk's murder Mean Girls the star wrote on Instagram that Kirk's death was both “disturbing and unfortunate,” despite the fact that she believed he used hateful rhetoric in his activism.
“I don't want to add fuel to the fire. I just want to be able to set the record straight on something that has been so irresponsibly (but understandably) taken out of context. Energetic conversation – isn't that what we need?” she said then.
“We forget the nuances of humanity,” Seyfried added. “I can be angry about the misogyny and racist rhetoric and ALSO completely agree that the murder of Charlie Kirk was absolutely disturbing and unfortunate in every imaginable way. No one should have to experience this level of violence. This country is grieving too many senseless and violent deaths and shootings. Can we at least agree on that?”
Seyfried reiterated her stance during the interview. Who wears what this week as part of her promotional tour Ann Lee's will.
“I don’t apologize a damn bit about it,” Seyfried said. “I mean, damn it, I commented one thing. I said things that were based on real reality, real footage and real quotes. What I said was damn true and I'm certainly free to have my own opinion. Thank God there is Instagram. I was able to bring some clarity and it was about reclaiming my voice because I felt like it had been stolen and re-imagined – which of course people do.”
Charlie Kirk, 31, was shot and killed during Speaking at the Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University on September 10. He is survived by his wife Erica and two children. Alleged killer Tyler Robinson reportedly decided kill Kirk because he “has had enough of his hatred.”
