Comedian and actress Amy Schumer announced that she and her husband, chef Chris Fischer, are divorcing after seven years of marriage.
The Trainwreck star wrote in a social media post on Friday, along with a photo of them both on the subway, that they had made the “difficult decision” to split and would continue to focus on raising their six-year-old son.
“Friendly, with love and respect! Family forever,” she said.
Schumer, 44, and Fisher, 45, have been married since February 2018 and welcomed a son the following year.
Schumer also joked in his Instagram post that the split wasn't “because I lost a few pounds” or because Fisher is “an award-winning chef who can still shoot a little.”
Fisher won a James Beard Award in the American Cooking category for his 2015 cookbook Beetlebung Farm: A Year of Cooking on Martha's Vineyard.
The couple appeared together on the Food Network reality show Amy Schumer Learns to Cook, which aired during the Covid pandemic.
They also shared the screen during the documentary series Waiting for Amy, which follows Schumer as she opened up about having endometriosis during her difficult pregnancy.
Schumer has starred in the sketch show Inside Amy Schumer, the 2015 film Trainwreck and the 2018 I Feel Pretty.
She also wrote, directed and starred in the sitcom Life and Beth.
Several of Schumer's famous friends expressed their support in Instagram comments.
Actress Sophia Bush said divorce “is hard as hell, even if it's hard for the world to see… so when the world sees it, I'll just say: be very gentle with yourself.”
Meanwhile, personality Gayle King wrote: “Amy has always been there. Only YOU could make THIS announcement with humor and love.”
