The Motion Picture Academy held its fifth annual star-studded fundraising gala Saturday at its Wilshire Boulevard campus.
Among the celebrity guests of the event were unrecognizable Kim Kardashian, Selena Gomez, Demi Moore, Elle and Dakota Fanning. debuted in 2021 on the occasion of the long-awaited opening of the cinema museum. The gala raises funds for museum exhibitions, educational initiatives and community programs.
The Academy Museum raised more than $11 million in donations at last year's gala honoring Quentin Tarantino, Paul Mescal and Rita Moreno.
Among the laureates of this year's gala concert was the actor Penelope Cruzdirector Walter Sallescomedian Bowen Yang and musician Bruce Springsteenwho was presented with the first Legacy Award and performed live at the ceremony. A biographical film about the rock legend starring Jeremy Allen White in the film “Bear” will be released in theaters on October 24.
Springsteen and Cruise, this year's Icon Award winner, are both Academy Award winners: the former for his original song “Streets of Philadelphia,” which he wrote for the 1993 Tom Hanks legal drama Philadelphia, and the latter for his role in the 2008 film Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
Salles, a Luminary Award winner for innovative filmmaking, last year presented Brazil with its first Academy Award for International Film for his touching family drama “I'm Still Here.” Fernanda Torres was also nominated for her role as the Paiva family matriarch in the 2024 film.
Ian received Premium Advantage“in honor of an artist or scholar who helped contextualize and challenge dominant narratives about film.” The “SNL” favorite and “Las Culturistas” podcast host will return as Glinda's sidekick Pfanny in “Wicked: For Good,” which hits theaters November 21.
Gala-goers spared no expense in donations and outfits: Jenna Ortega wore a futuristic Grace Ling halter top, Rachel Zegler channeled Old Hollywood in a Tamara Ralph Couture dress, Olivia Rodrigo wore a vintage Giorgio Armani Privé number, and Eva Longoria wearing Elie Saab.
