As we reported, The Justice Department is sending election observers to California and New Jersey at the request of state Republican parties for the 2025 elections.
The Justice Department announced Friday that it plans to monitor polling places in Passaic County, New Jersey, and five southern and central California counties: Los Angeles, Orange, Kern, Riverside and Fresno. The goal, according to the Justice Department, is to “ensure voting transparency, security, and compliance with federal law.”
“Transparency at the polls means faith in the election process, and the Department of Justice is committed to maintaining the highest standards of election integrity,” Attorney General Pamela Bondi said in a statement to The Associated Press.
The California Republican Party told the Department of Justice in a letter that they had reports of irregularities in recent elections.

But guess who wasn't happy with this transparency move? Slippery California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Newsom argues that election monitoring was a “bridge too far” and somehow “suppressing” voters. How? USA. even sending election observers to other countries to ensure election security. What is Gavin afraid of? Why do election observers scare voters? What does he think observers will find? If they're not doing anything wrong, why is he going crazy?
Besides, those awkward hand movements are so distracting. Frankly, they are worse than those of Senate Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).
In an excellent post, Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon rebutted Newsom's account, reminding him that election observers are nothing new in this country.
