It's a new world, a different world, but set in the same world. Take it? Another world is getting a sequel from Netflix focusing on Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison) and Whitley Gilbert's (Jasmine Guy) daughter, Deborah (Malia Joy Moon). She will attend Hillman College and try to escape the shadow of her parents. It will truly be a different world as the show makes a big move from NBC, where it originally aired from 1987 to 1993, to Netflix. Gray's Anatomy Writer Felicia Pride will serve as showrunner. “I am honored to be a part of the return of this iconic show that I grew up watching and has had a profound impact on my life,” Pride shared in a press release. “I'm so proud of the work we're doing to reimagine Another world both for beloved fans and for new generations.” Starring: Elijah Kaye (Everybody Hates Chris) as Rashida, Chibuikem Uche (One of us is lying) as Kojo, Cornell Young IV (Making life) as Shaquille, Jordan Aaron Hall (The idea of you) as Amir and Kennedy Rees as Hazel.
It's not just new faces coming to Hillman; some of the original series' writers are also returning to school. Debbie Allen, who directed 83 episodes of the original, will direct the first three episodes of the Netflix version and serve as an executive producer. Reggie Rock Bythewood and Gina Prince-Bythewood, the original writers who fell in love while working on the series, join as executive producers alongside Mandy Summers and Tom Werner. There's no word yet on whether the original cast will return in any capacity, but like any good reboot, hopefully someone will make a fun, nostalgic cameo.
