Algoma Steel and Supreme Steel will supply and build the Calgary-Edmonton rail line.
TransPod has partnered with two Canadian steel companies to support its proposed “ultra-high-speed” rail line between Calgary and Edmonton.
With preliminary work completed, the project is on hold until the Alberta government releases its transportation master plan later this year.
As part of the agreement, Algoma Steel will supply up to 2 million tons of Canadian-made steel during construction of the project, and Supreme Steel will produce the steel guides that will carry FluxJet TransPod vehicles at speeds in excess of 1,000 km/h between the two cities.
TransPod said the collaboration will reduce dependence on unstable export markets and tariffs from the USA.
“Together with Algoma and Supreme Steel, we can create jobs, strengthen supply chains and position Alberta as a productivity hub,” TransPod co-founder and CEO Sebastian Gendron said in a statement.
Toronto auto tech startup hit several failures since this started researching project with Alberta in 2020 that will provide 45-minute commutes between the province's two largest cities.
Since the company secured Alberta makes $688.2 million investment in 2022 TransPod commit to adding a stop in Red Deer, between Calgary and Edmonton. The company was also prohibited from acquiring the necessary land for the corridor because its unique infrastructure is not recognized by the Alberta Railway Act.

With preliminary work completed, the project is on hold until the Alberta government's transportation master plan is released later this year, TransPod said in a statement. The master plan says it should give the company the clarity it needs to acquire the land it needs. Railway supply.
TransPod said it and its partners are “fully prepared” to resume development as soon as the strategy is published. A feasibility study said the project would create up to 140,000 jobs and add $19.2 billion to the region's GDP during construction.
Hyperloops, first proposed by Elon Musk more than a decade ago, are transport systems in which capsules travel through sealed, low-pressure tubes that are unaffected by air resistance and friction. Although Hyperloop systems were criticized expensive, but that didn't stop companies like the now defunct Virgin Hyperloop And other from learning the concept.
TransPod says its approach is different from Hyperloop systems. “We are trying to move away from this word [Hyperloop] just to really differentiate ourselves from what the public thinks,” Gendron said on demonstration in 2022. “This is not Elon Musk technology, this is transportation technology.”
