Alzheimer’s Drama To Premiere in Tallinn

EXCLUSIVE: Cat steppedrama Sunday the ninthabout brothers who reunite when one of them develops Alzheimer's disease has been announced as a contender Estonia's Tallinn Film Festival “Black Nights” on Tuesday and Deadline may debut the trailer.

Horst suffers from Alzheimer's disease, while Franz is in debt, and sees his brother's unspent inheritance as the solution to his financial problems.

When Horst's ex-love Andrea, played by Christien De Proust (Girl) appear on the scene, old wounds and a forgotten family secret resurface, forcing them to confront their past. Frank Lammers (ur.Undercover) also participates in the cast as a doctor.

In developing the film, Steppe stayed true to her documentary roots, drawing inspiration from her work as a volunteer at a residential home specializing in caring for people with Alzheimer's disease.

“I wanted to understand aspects of the disease so I could write about it. Horst's role is based solely on countless conversations I had with one particular man. For privacy reasons, I will call him 'Eddie,'” she explains.

“Eddie has taught me a lot about this disease firsthand. People living with Alzheimer's are far from empty shells. Many remain acutely aware of how their abilities are deteriorating. What helps them feel better is being able to talk about what they see and feel without us constantly correcting them.”
