Canadians can get deals on the Pixel 9 at Telus, Rogers, and Freedom

If you're feeling savvy enough to handle Telus support or want to hit the store in a few days with a few sneaky moves, you can get a really good deal on the Pixel 9.

The carrier is offering up to $2.50 a month off the phone through a rebate program, which at first glance seems like a bargain until you realize it only comes with a $90 data plan. Alternatively, you can go to Freedom and get Pixel 9 for $5 per month and a $50 plan, which is still almost $1,000 less than what you'd pay at Telus for two years.

However, Telus appears to have structured its deal as an upfront $1,125 rebate instead of spreading it out over 24 months. However, your first account will be charged a month and a half, costing you approximately $140. Once you pay this amount, you can contact Telus, cancel the service, and you will be charged $60 per phone, plus $100 for the Get It Back program and possibly any other early cancellation fees.

In general, the charges are as follows:

• Day One – $47.20 (taxes on phone and home delivery)
• Bill one – $138.75 (first month and a half of service)
• Second bill – $60 (full phone cost)
• Return fee is $100.00.

Total – $345.95

Rogers is offering an even bigger discount, dropping the price of the Pixel 9 to just $1. However, its plans are even more expensive, and the discount comes in the form of a bill credit, so the cost of the phone will be much higher if you try to buy out the contract early.

While this Telus option is a good deal, if you live in Freedom's coverage area, you can get the Pixel 9 (not in the device return plan) and a 100GB plan with CAN/US/MEX data, calls, and texts for $54 per month. It's actually a pretty good deal, and over two years it will cost about the same as the weird Telus workaround I described above.

However, if Freedom isn't right for you, you can use Telus' method to get a cheap plan for Public mobile (also Telus) and you'll still save a lot of money on your device.
