London (AP) – Gilly Cooper, Bestseller, a British author, known for his class chronicles and sex in risky novels, including “competitors” and “riders”, her agent and family died on Monday. She was 88 years old.
The author died on Sunday after the fall, the statement of the literary agency Kertis Brown, which represented her, said.
“Mom was a radiant light in our whole life,” her children wrote, Felix and Emily. “Her unexpected death was a complete shock.”
Queen Camilla, the wife of King Charles III, called Cooper “legend” and remembered how she recently saw the author at the book festival.
“I join my husband to the king, sending our thoughts and sympathy for her whole family. And let it be filled with incredibly beautiful men and devoted dogs in the future, ”Camilla wrote.
Cooper was most famous in the series “Ruthir Chronicles” of the novels, starting with the “racers” in 1985, which depicts the sexual life and excesses of charitable, horse and middle classes in England in the 1980s.
One of the books “Rivals” was turned into a popular series Disney+ last year with David Tennan and Alex Hassell.
Bill Scott-Cerrer, its publisher, praised the merchant for her “evil social commentary and dexterity, torn the description.”
“She dissected the behavior, mainly from the English upper middle class with the most sharp of the scalpels,” he said.
Her agent, Felicity Blunt, said that Cooper “determined culture, letter and conversation since it was first published more than 50 years ago.”
“Emotionally smart, fantastically generous, sharply observant and completely cheerful, Gilly Cooper will be deeply missed in Curtis Brown and on the set,” she added.
Born in 1937 in Essex, not far from London, Cooper cut her teeth in journalism in a local newspaper in Brentford, covering everything from parties to football.
Her big break occurred in 1969, when Sunday Times published an entertainment article that she wrote about the difficulties to be a young working wife. She became a newspaper observer for more than 13 years.
Her first book “How to Stay in Marriage” was published in 1969, which followed about 18 novels and short fiction, as well as more than 20 scientific works. Her last, “Guard!” Was published in 2023.
Cooper was awarded OBE, or an officer of the Order of the British Empire for literature services in 2004. Among her in many fans was the former prime minister -British minister Rishi Sunak, who said the books were offered to “escape”.
